The Home Care Aides/Caregiver work at the client's home or a residential senior facility. The Home Care Aide/Caregiver have a minimum of 1+ years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities, mental illness, challenging behaviors and including but not limited to:

  • Lifting & transferring: assist an adult with transfers, including from sitting to stand, wheelchair assistance, and bathing
  • Personal Care: help with bathing, showering, dressing, toileting, and incontinence
  • Transportation: take clients in your car or theirs to appointments and errands.
  • Meals and groceries: help with meal preparation and planning, cooking, feeding
  • Medication reminders - remind clients when to take their medication.
  • Physical activity & exercise: remind clients to do their exercises
  • Light housekeeping: help tidying up and laundry

What do you do as a caregiver? Tell us about your day-to-day activities.

My day-to-day activities are early in the morning. As soon as I arrived at the client's house, I would make breakfast, coffee or prepare whatever the client wants. I sit with the client in the living room to have a cup of coffee, watch the news, and we would talk about the plan for the day. Whether it is going to doctor’s appointments, shopping and visiting family members. 

How long have you been a caregiver, and why?

This is my fourth week working as a caregiver. I believe I fit in this role as I have been a long time caregiver for my grandmother. I took care of my grandmother but not as a job but as part of the responsibility for being part of my family.

What do you like about your job the most?

What I like most about my job is being able to help and listen. The client's stories are always very interesting, they fill with emotion as they narrate their past life, and seeing the satisfaction they get from being listened to is a very beautiful experience. To be able to help reinforce their own security and self-esteem when they are having any frustration. Tell them do not worry, we will try everything to just do it and we will achieve it.

I love cats and dogs, I have 2 cats and 2 dogs and I could never decide who I want more or who I prefer.

My power would be to be able to give love, security and shelter to all abused children and animals.
